Hello there. My name is Michael, though I also go by Mikey (not to be confused with Mickey). I recently graduated from Columbia with a B.S. in Computer Science. You can reach me here, read my profile here, and check out my GitHub here.
Here's some stuff I've done.
Swype in the Air
I implemented a Swype-like text entry system that enters text through the air (detected by a Leap Motion controller) rather than on a touchscreen. A video will be coming. For now though, here's the code.
Text Entry in the Air
For a final project, my team and I implemented an in-the-air, per-word gesture text entry system.
I love types. For this project, I built an app that given an image with text in it, can classify the typography of the text. The code for this project can be found here.
AMC New York City Showtime Movie Navigator
As part of a group of three, we built a spoken dialogue system that can converse with the user via speech to select the time, date, and location of a movie to watch in New York City. We used lots and lots of Hidden Markov Chains.
Kaggle Million Song Challenge
As part of a team of four, we used a modified version of collaborative filtering to recommend songs to a user. Here's the code.
I have other interests, some common, some less so.
I won the 2007 U.S. High School Chess Championship as a sophomore. I still have some game, but I've certainly regressed since.
I will never decline a dodgeball match.
Columbia Daily Spectator
I joined my college paper the week before school began and I stuck around all four years, meeting many incredible people in the process.
